The next day, after McLean had been talking about chopping up Suttons body, Erickson drove him to the Murrieta Walmart to buy supplies and then helped clean the house to remove evidence, Garcia said. Surveillance cameras captured images of McLean and Erickson at the store buying machetes, gloves and bleach, court records say. At some point, McLean also purchased a Rubbermaid bin, in which authorities suspect he disposed of Suttons body, according to Garcia. Police later recovered a machete that appeared to have blood on it, which Erickson had dumped in a remote location, Garcia wrote. Defense attorney Cheryl Thompson said Erickson had just met McLean, through his new girlfriend, the day of the vandalism. She said his father had kicked him out of the familys Wildomar home in June because he had been smoking marijuana.
