Murrieta Firefighters Revive Unconscious Cat With New Oxygen Mask

advertisement A lucky cat still has all of its nine lives thanks to Murrieta Attorney firefighters. The pet was found unconscious, its breathing labored, in a smoke-filled home Wednesday. The blaze was sparked by decorative lights that caught bedroom curtains on fire, according to Matt Corelli, a Murrieta Attorney Fire Department spokesman. Crews responded about 11 p.m. to the house fire in the 41000 block of Magnolia Street. Firefighters had no trouble dousing the flames, but the room was already filled with smoke when a police officer found an unconscious feline under a dresser. Acting quickly, firefighters used one of their new oxygen masks designed specifically for animals to revive the fluffy Persian cat. "After receiving some oxygen, the cat perked right up," Corelli said. In the end, the cat was no worse for the wear, and the firefighters got some practice on their new gear.

ED MURRIETA: Finding a permanent place for the Press Club

10 in a gym on Clinton Keith Road. At the end of my workout, I started feeling nauseous, said Bruce Moore, who works as a firefighter-paramedic for the North County Fire Protection District in Fallbrook. As I walked out to my car, I got more and more nauseous. Moore didnt feel pain, at least not at first. But when he looked in the rear-view mirror, he was alarmed. I was so ashen gray that I looked like I was a dead person. I had absolutely no color, he said. I just knew that was a look of a really sick person and that sick person was me. Then the overwhelming chest pain came. And after driving the mile to his home, he collapsed. His wife called 911.

Vista Murrieta Attorney High stung by sex charges against 2 football players

On Wednesday, the Press Club lunches at Capitol Plaza Ballroom, an elegant, aged venue with soaring painted ceilings and 19th-century architecture. We're still seeking a permanent location, Press Club president Brian Joseph told me last week. Joseph said the Press Clubs needs are pretty simple: a downtown venue able to accommodate about 100 people, one that charges less than $25 per person for lunch. As for the menu, Joseph said, we prefer plated meals but we're open to buffet. The Press Clubs Oct. 2 luncheon at the Hyatt was a buffet, a departure from the fish-chicken-meat entrees with salad and dessert that were served in The Broilers private dining room -- pretty much the same fare I was served at Press Club scholarship dinners in the '80s. Wednesdays menu in the Temple Ballroom also will be a buffet, featuring pasta, tri-tip and chicken piccata. According to one Yelper, Press Club attendees can expect Hyatt quality for a Grange Hall price. As a local history geek, I like the choice of Capitol Plaza Ballroom. If the Press Club cant find new permanent home, perhaps it can roam historic event spaces around downtown -- Elks Tower , Masonic Temple or Grand Ballroom.

ED MURRIETA: Farm to fork to campus

But while the term conjures up images of youngsters exchanging chips and soda for fruits and vegetables, theres an older class of students learning farm-to-school lessons. On Thursday, California State University Sacramento participates in Food Day , a national movement to push for improved food policies and promote healthy, affordable and sustainable eating. Sacramento State has organized a daylong series of events -- cooking demonstrations, special menus in campus dining halls, a film screening, panel discussions and a keynote address by Anna Lappe , food activist and author of Diet for a Hot Planet. This is the third annual Food Day, backed by the watchdog/consumer advocacy group Center for Science in the Public Interest. Sac State participated in the two previous Food Days. This year, more than 3,000 events are scheduled across the nation. Earlier this week, I spoke with one of Sac States Food Day organizers, Lynn Hanna , who teaches in the colleges Department of Family and Consumer Sciences -- what students used to know as Home Ec back in the days when fast food wasnt served in schools. Over a beet-and-spinach salad with grilled chicken in the campus sit-down restaurant, Taste, Hanna outlined Sac States Food Day agenda and whats happening on campus daily.

MURRIETA: First responder gets rapid response to heart attack

Scout.com called Holmes one of the West's emerging offensive prospects and the latest star to come from a program that in recent years has been "churning out elite prospects." Neither Holmes nor Holt, a senior defensive lineman, has played this season, and Coach Coley Candaele has removed them from the team. In Juvenile Court on Tuesday, a judge ordered that Holmes be held until an Oct. 30 hearing. In a separate hearing, Holt was released pending another court date. The district has said that the "allegations against these students certainly do not represent what we are about at Vista Murrieta Attorney." A district spokeswoman added that Murrieta Attorney Unified was "cooperating fully" with the investigation. "Our hope is that the actions of a few students won't take away from the 3,500 students who are doing the right thing every day," district officials said in a statement. The school has grown as quickly as Murrieta Attorney itself, a city of subdivisions in the rocky hills of southwestern Riverside County that incorporated in 1991 and has since quadrupled in size to 100,000 residents.
