Blog: Field House The Denver Post's sports reporters add analysis and notes to this blog focusing on college sports. McElwain said Monday that Conner Smith and Stevens have split backup quarterback repetitions equally during practices. If Grayson got hurt, McElwain said he would have a decision to make between the two. Smith and Stevens both travel with the team on road trips. "Right now, it would really depend on the severity (of the injury) if something were to happen to Garrett," McElwain said. "Are you going to make a long-term decision? I also look at what's best for the individual, in this case being Nick (burning a redshirt year). "I'm not sure where that would be right now." Footnotes. Perhaps CSU's top overall player, senior linebacker Shaquil Barrett (ankle sprain), was not able to practice Tuesday afternoon.

The running duo of Chandler Woodward and Daniel Castro have combined for 13 TDs. Great Oak is also listed just outside of the Top Ten, with close victories over top-ranked Rancho Verde and Heritage (Central Division). They lost their opener to SD Sections #5-ranked Carlsbad and a close one 47-42 to Inland Divisions #4-ranked Chino Hills. QB Laquan Williams has thrown for 437 yards and four TDs in a game; WR Brandon Presley caught seven of those passes for 236 yards and 3 TDs. Running back Nick Fisher has had a 295-yard rushing game with three TDs. The Wolfpack has been putting up 40+ points per game, but their defense has also been giving up almost as many points. If their defense steps up, they should battle for second place and a playoff spot. Chaparral has had a couple of tough losses against powerhouses Oceanside and Tesoro, but they have also had three huge wins. The Pumas are a young team, starting a lot of sophomores and juniors.
