Murrieta Football Players' Charges Prompt Emotional Response at Courthouse

murrieta-vista Riverside County health officials are working with the Murrieta Valley Unified School District to identify students and staff who may have been exposed to a high school student with an activecase of tuberculosis . The Vista Murrieta High School student, who was not identified, has not been in school since last week and will not return until it is safe to do so, according to a statement posted on the districts website. The student is being treated and is expected to make a full recovery, the district said. And although health officials stressed that the risk of transmission is very low, Vista Murrieta Attorney Principal Mick Wager notified all parents of the situation via a phone message on Thursday, the district said. Parent Deanne Hazel told KCAL-TV that she received a call and email from the district "and I thought, 'Great.' " Students and staff who are identified as being at risk will receive an email notice and phone call from the school, as well as a letter from the Riverside County Department of Public Health in the coming days. Officials are recommending that anyone who receives the notice be screened at a clinic being planned at the school. Those who do not receive a notice are not at risk.

The six female alleged victims are students in the Murrieta Attorney Valley Unified School District, police said. One boy faces eight counts including two of rape by force or fear involving six female alleged victims, according to the Riverside County District Attorneys Office. The other boy has been charged with sex-related crimes, said John Hall, spokesman for the district attorneys office. Only the boys name and age and the general description of the charges against him could be publicly disclosed. The names of the two suspects were made public due to the nature of their alleged crimes, Hall said. KTLA is not identifying them because they are minors who have not been convicted.

MURRIETA: Former soldier to be grand marshal

They took place between 2012 and August 2013, Hall said. All suspects in this investigation have been contacted by detectives and arrested, stated a news release from Murrieta police issued Sept. 12. An investigation that began with a school resource officer on Aug. 29 and was transferred to the Murrieta Attorney Police Departments investigative unit on Sept. 3, according to the news release.
